Suits for a Cause is an annual clothing drive sponsored by the Southern California legal community to support the job seekers of WHW. WHW was started by two legal professionals who were survivors of domestic abuse, who faced the daunting task of rebuilding their professional wardrobes and self-esteem to return to the workforce. Today, WHW continues to assist men and women in successfully entering the workforce by providing comprehensive employment readiness programs including interview-appropriate apparel and accessories.
Throughout the past two decades, many professions have adopted less formal dress standards and have given up the practice of requiring employees to wear suits. Not lawyers ! Law is one of the last professions that still requires a closet full of suits. For this reason, WHW relies heavily on the legal community for their business attire donations.
Suits for a Cause, which is held every year, engages the entire legal community to help WHW fulfill its vision of helping job seekers get and keep good jobs. Suits for a Cause was the 2011 brainchild of then WHW Board Member, Laurie Rowen of the Montage Legal Group, who along with Hewitt Wolensky, Albrecht & Barney and Snell & Wilmer sponsored and gathered over 25 law firms to support the job seekers of WHW by collecting men’s and women’s business and non-business attire and accessories. Now, over 60 firms, groups and companies in Southern California sponsor and participate each year in Suits for a Cause.
To participate in Suits for a Cause, you only need to supply a designated office or conference room for company employees to drop off donated clothing. You can drop off your collected donations anytime during the month or bring them to the Suits for a Cause Breakfast.
